Hu Jintao congratulates new KMT chairman

    BEIJING, April 9 -- Hu Jintao congratulated Wu Poh-hsiung, Chairman-Elect of the Chinese Nationalist Party, or the Kuomintang, in Taiwan.

    Hu Jintao says he sincerely hopes the CPC and the KMT will work together for the well-being of compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Straits. He's also called on both sides to continue to promote cross-Straits relations.

    In response, Wu Poh-hsiung has promised to follow the five-point consensus outlined in the 2005 joint press communique, and continue to work for peace and development across the Taiwan Straits.
