HAVANA, April 4 (Xinhua) -- Cuban leader Fidel Castro on Wednesday warned of a possible U.S. invasion of Iran.

The U.S. invasion of Iraq, which has caused an "unending and hateful civil war," is the step prior to a U.S. military campaign against Iran, said Castro in an article "Thoughts of the Commander in Chief", published by the official International Press Center.

The British soldiers trespassing into Iranian waters was a provocation, said Castro, warning that the worst is yet to come: anew war to ensure oil and gas supplies, which will throw the humanrace into the abyss of a total holocaust.

The Cuban leader said that the United States has the military power to destroy Iran but cannot control the consequences of a conflict against another Muslim nation.

On March 23, 15 British naval soldiers were seized by Iranian forces when they were patrolling off the Iraqi borders. Iran insisted that the British boats illegally entered its territorial waters, while Britain said its soldiers were in Iraqi territorial waters. The Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Wednesday announced that the Britons have been pardoned and will be released as a "gift" to Britain on Easter.
