RIO DE JANEIRO, April 4 (Xinhua) -- One hundred days before the Rio de Janeiro-based 15th Pan American Games begin, Brazil only has 98 athletes qualified out of the 699 Brazilian Olympic Committee hopes to send, according to Wednesday's media reports.

The host to the July 13-29 event is seeking to beat the record of 479 athletes Brazil sent to Santo Domingo Pan American Games in 2003.

The 98 qualified athletes will participate in 13 of the 42 sports.

Since Brazil is the host, it is automatically registered in the 42 sports and has until June to fill the vacant positions.

The Brazilian delegation expects to have 966 members: 699 athletes (389 men and 310 women) and 267 officials.
