WELLINGTON, April 4 (Xinhua) -- Fiji's Interim Government announced Wednesday it will provide a cash grant of 25,000 FJ dollars (15,000 U.S. dollars) to the Solomon Islands following the tsunami tragedy Monday.
According to PacNews, a Suva-based news agency, Interim Prime Minister Commodore Bainimarama said Fiji stands ready to help its neighbors in time of need, especially when Fiji and Solomon Islands have very close historical, cultural, economic and trade ties.
Meanwhile, the Fiji Red Cross has donated 1,000 FJ dollars (614U.S. dollars) to the Solomon Islands Red Cross to assist them with their immediate relief efforts in the wake of the devastating tsunami.
A statement from the Fiji Red Cross said it extended its sympathies and consolation to the families of those who had lost their lives in the disaster.
