BERLIN, April 2 (Xinhua) -- German electrical
engineering giant Siemens sees "a major opportunity" offered by China's
increasing environmental awareness, local reports said Monday.
Richard Hausmann, chief executive of Siemens China,
told Germannews agency dpa that the Siemens Chinese subsidiary could double its
annual sales from the current 5 billion euros (6.5 billion US dollars) by 2010.
"The Siemens portfolio in China is ideally positioned
for providing a modern, sustainable and environmentally compatible
infrastructure," he said.
He noted that the Chinese government announced in the
recent session of the People's Congress that environmental protection is a
priority issue.
Apart from the environmental field, China's rapid
economic growth, increasing urbanization and major events, including the
upcoming 2008 Olympics in Beijing and 2010 Exposition in Shanghai, also offered
opportunities, he said.
