MOSCOW, March 30 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese National Exhibition held in Moscow attracted more than 86,000 Russians and the trade volume of agreements signed on the sideline of the event reached 4.9 billion U.S. dollars, an official with China's Ministry of Commerce said on Friday.
The exhibition, kicked off last Tuesday in the
Crocus-Expo center, is one of the most significant events during the "Year of
China in Russia."
"Such event helped Russians to learn more about
China, enhanced our friendship and strengthened economic and trade ties as
well," said Huo Jianguo, a senior official in charge of the exhibition with the
Ministry of Commerce.
The four-day exhibition, covering an impressive floor
area of some 20,000 square meters and sponsored by China's Ministry of Commerce,
showcased more than 30 industries ranging from energy to home appliances, and
more than 15,000 kinds of products.
About 24 promotion events or seminars were staged
during the exhibition which offered a platform for regional governments,
financial sectors and companies to exchange views and seek business
opportunities.
The exhibition was co-organized by China's national
and local governments and 186 big state-owned companies such as the Sinopec, FAW
Group, Hair and Lenovo.
"China and Russia should enhance R&D cooperation
which will benefit both sides," said Shang Yong, deputy minister of science.
The agreements signed on the sideline of the
exhibition involved trade or assembly of automobiles, electric home appliances,
toilet facilities, agricultural products, machinery tools, timber as well as
shipbuilding and natural resources exploration.
A total of 29 festivities on science cooperation will
be held during the "Year of China in Russia." China will send delegations to
participate in grand fairs such as the international space and aviation
exhibition in Moscow, conduct exchange between the youth and scientists of the
two countries, and host seminars on laser, energy, marine science, aviation and
natural environment.
Russian Minister of Economic Development and Trade
German Gref spoke highly of the exhibition, suggesting it be held again in
St.Petersburg, another major Russian city.
The Beijing Opera, Shaolin Kungfu, acupuncture and
tea skill which are always surrounded and applauded by Russian audience, will
also be displayed at the event.
