Riyadh summit agrees to revive Arab
peace initiative
RIYADH, March 28 (Xinhua) -- Arab leaders agreed to reactivate a
Saudi-proposed Arab peace initiative without any modification during a
closed-door session on Wednesday, local media quoted a well-informed Arab League
official as reporting.
The leaders,
convening in Riyadh for the 19th Arab summit, called for activating the peace
initiative, which was adopted in Beirut summit in 2002, aiming at reinforcing an
Arab effort to end the Arab-Israeli conflict, the source said on condition of

Arab leaders kick off Riyadh

RIYADH, March 28 (Xinhua) -- Arab leaders on Wednesday
kicked off the 19th Arab League summit in the Saudi capital of Riyadh, with Arab
peace initiative, Middle East security, the Iraq issue high on the agenda.
The conference, which started at 1:20 p.m. (1020 GMT) at
Abdulaziz International Conference Center, brought together 17 heads of state of
the 22-member pan-Arab bloc.
The opening session started with the speech by Sudanese
President Omar al-Bashir, the chairman of the 18th Arab summit in Khartoum. Full story
Arab peace initiative expected to be centerpiece in Riyadh

RIYADH, March 27 (Xinhua) -- Arab leaders are arriving in
the Saudi capital of Riyadh for a summit due on March 28-29, during which a
Riyadh-proposed Arab peace initiative is expected to be the centerpiece as the
United States and Israel have recently shown interest to the plan.
At a press conference on Monday after the opening
session of the Arab foreign ministerial meeting in preparations for the upcoming
19th Arab summit, Arab League (AL) Secretary General Amr Moussa and host Saudi
Foreign Minister Prince Saud al-Faisal have confirmed the expectation, while
stressing that no amendment will be there on the Arab peace initiative. Full story
