KUWAIT CITY, March 27 (Xinhua) -- The upcoming 19th
Arab summit, due to kick off in Riyadh Wednesday, is expected to come up with
numerous initiatives amid optimistic atmospheres on Arab and international
issues, Kuwait's official KUNA news agency reported on Tuesday.
Such optimism came following the
speech of the Saudi King Abdullah who asserted that the summit would defy all
political, cultural and economic challenges facing the Arab world, KUNA quoted
local analysts as saying.
Topping the agenda, the Arab initiative will call for
resolving the Arab-Israeli conflict upon an Israeli withdrawal from the Arab
lands occupied in 1967 as well as solving other pending issues in exchange for
the Arab normalization of ties with the Jewish state, according to the report.
The Iraqi situation comes second on the agenda as the
Iraqi government has called on its neighbors to help in stopping infiltration
into its borders, as well as boosting the reconciliation process in the country,
the report said.
The Arab leaders will also try to deal with the
Lebanese issue by finding a way to defuse the ongoing tension among the various
parties under the "Solidarity with Lebanon Project," KUNA said.
Initiatives concerning Somalia and Darfur issues will
also be expected, it added.
