BEIJING, March 27 (Xinhuanet) -- Yahoo Inc. is
recruiting other Web sites Tuesday to help make its mobile search services more
useful for consumers and advertisers, marking another step to build a lucrative
sales channel beyond the personal computer.
Earlier this month, Yahoo
expanded the reach of its OneSearch mobile search application, making it
available to more mobile Web users.
Yahoo is releasing some tools for publishers to
submit their content to the OneSearch index or Yahoo Mobile Media Directory, and
to sign up to show ads on their mobile sites from the new Yahoo Mobile Ad
Network.
Launch partners in the Mobile Ad Network include
MobiTV, Opera, and go2. The first ads will go live in the second quarter, with
more partners to be added in coming months.
The Yahoo Mobile Content Engine is a tool to help
publishers integrate their content into the oneSearch index. Publishers can use
Yahoo's Mobile Site Submit to provide information about their mobile site, such
as a description and relevant tags, to ensure that their sites are accurately
indexed in oneSearch.
Publishers can also submit mobile media content, such
as ringtones, games, video and applications, to the Yahoo Mobile Media
Directory.
"We think 2007 is going to be a watershed year for
the mobile Internet," said Steve Boom, a Yahoo senior vice president.
Mobile ads are expected to generate about 1.5 billion
U.S. dollars this year. Within the next three months, Yahoo plans to start
distributing some of those ads to other mobile Web sites accepted into its
network, Boom said.
