Special report: Tension escalates in
Iraq
BAGHDAD, March 24 (Xinhua) -- A U.S. soldier was killed in south of Baghdad
on Friday, a U.S. military statement said on Saturday.
A soldier assigned to Multi-National Division-Baghdad was killed by a
roadside bomb while his unit and Iraqi security forces were conducting a foot
patrol to quell violence in the area, the statement said.
More than 3,230 U.S. soldiers have been killed in Iraq since the U.S.-led
invasion in March 2003, according to media count based on Pentagon figures.
