CAIRO, March 23 (Xinhua) -- The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) said on
Friday that Egypt has been officially chosen to host the 2009 U-20 World Cup,
local soccer news website filgoal.com reported.
The EFA has received the confirmation from FIFA, Egypt will host the 2009
U-20 World Cup, EFA vice-president Ahmed Shobeir said.
Six stadiums will be used in four host cities, namely Cairo (Cairo
International Stadium, Military Academy), Alexandria (Borg Al-Arab, Harras
Al-Hodoud), Port Said (Masri) and Ismailia (Ismaili).
Egypt previously hosted the U-17 World Cup in 1997 while Nigeria were the
last African country to host the U-20 tournament in 1999.
FIFA U-20 World Cup is formerly known as the FIFA World Youth Championship.
The new name will be used for the first time in 2007when Canada will host U-20
World Cup from June 30 to July 22.
The U-20 World Cup has been awarded two years since the first tournament in
1977.
