CAIRO, March 20 (Xinhua) -- After four years of U.S. military occupation of Iraq killed thousands of innocent civilians, some Egyptians denounced the U.S. policy on Iraq and expressed their disappointment on the deteriorating security situations in the war-torn country.

Abdel-Raouf el-Ridy, Chairman of Egyptian Council for Foreign Affairs (ECFA) and the former Egyptian ambassador to the United States, told Xinhua on Tuesday that "the U.S. policy on Iraq is a disaster to Iraqis, the region and the Americans themselves. It's a wrong policy."

Al Sayed Elawah, professor for politics in Helwan University in Cairo, said that the situation in Iraq after four years of the U.S. invasion proved that the U.S. administration failed in its policy in Iraq and the region as a whole.

As for the violence and insecurity in Iraq, ECFA Deputy Chairman Mohamed Shakir said that it is only the Iraqi people that can achieve stability in the war-torn country, meanwhile urging the Arab countries to exert more efforts to achieve peace and reconciliation in Iraq.

Even common Egyptians expressed their rejection of the Iraqi war.

"I don't know what the Americans want. They kill hundreds of Iraqis everyday and they kill their own soldiers," said Said Gaber, an Egyptian engineer, adding that the Arab world have to unite to solve the crisis.

"They (Iraqis) endured a lot and they are still suffering," said Basma Ragab, a university student in Ain Shams University, adding "Their misery have to come to an end as many children die everyday."

A recent poll showed that a majority of Americans now see the invasion as a mistake and want the U.S. government to set a timetable for the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq.

A huge number of people, waving signs and shouting anti-war slogans, marched in the streets of many countries, like Japan, Spain and Turkey, to express their criticism of the war.

The Americans themselves are demonstrating to end the war, some of them want it to end because a great amount of money was spent on this war rather than on social needs like health care, education and other important needs.
