QUITO, March 18 (Xinhua) -- Venezuela's under-17 soccer team beat Ecuador 1-0 on Sunday, the second playing day of the final round in the sport's South American Championship held in Ecuador.
The game's only goal was scored by Angel Rivera, who scored from a far left play after Ecuador's goalkeeper beat an attack on goal at the beginning of the second half.
Ecuador's situation worsened after the 60th minute sending off of mid-fielder Miller Bolanos, caught by the referee attacking a Venezuelan player.
In the game, held in northern Ecuador city Ibarra, Venezuela recouped from a loss to Colombia on the first day of the finals phase. Ecuador experienced its second consecutive loss in the final.
On Monday, Venezuela will face Brazil, while Ecuador will battle Argentina. Both games will also be in Ibarra. Later on Sunday Peru faces Brazil and Argentina tackles Colombia to finish off the second playing day.
The competition awards four places for 2007 South Korea World Cup.
