BUDAPEST, March 17 (Xinhua) -- Some 2,000 Hungarians held anti-war demonstrations in and outside Budapest on Saturday evening, MTI reported.

The demonstrators, carrying torches, were protesting against nuclear weapons and Iraq war, report said.

The gatherings coincided with similar demonstrations in 70 other places across the world.

Demonstration spokesman Balazs Szigeti was quoted as saying that the protests were increasingly "topical" as the nuclear warheads produced to date would be enough to blow up the world more than 25 times.
