GAZA, March 17
(Xinhua) -- A Palestinian national unity government on Saturday passed the vote
of confidence in the parliament.
Although 41 lawmakers, including Speaker of the
Palestinian Legislative Council Aziz Dweik, are detained in Israeli jails and
four absent, out of 132 lawmakers in total, 83 of 87 attended voted for and
three against and one abstained.
Prime Minister Ismail Haneya said after the vote that
the 25-member cabinet was scheduled to be sworn in at President Mahmoud Abbas'
headquarters in Gaza on Sunday.
Hassan Khreisha, second deputy speaker of the
parliament, said that the parliament would debate the political platform of the
new coalition later in the day and then present it for voting.
"If lawmakers finish debating the platform by
Saturday afternoon, the sworn-in ceremony would take place Saturday evening," he
said.
He said that "if there will be no enough time, the
sworn-in ceremony would be on Sunday."
The parliament held a special session Saturday morning in Gaza and Ramallah via video conference for the vote of confidence.
