BEIJING, March 15 (Xinhuanet) -- In recent years, the annual sessions of the National People's Congress (NPC) and the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) have become increasingly more open, according to a People's Daily commentary.

    This year in particular, the annual sessions are more like an "international convention" in the eyes of foreign journalists because the work report of the NPC Standing Committee was translated into English; the residences of all NPC delegations were made public; and it is for the first time that foreign journalists are allowed to directly interview NPC deputies and CPPCC members by appointment; the English versions of major draft laws have been made available.

    The reason why the annual sessions have become so open is, above all, due to attention paid by the rest of the world to China, the commentary noted.

    It added, "Since initiating reforms and open-up 30 years ago, China has become increasingly integrated into the international community in terms of the economy, politics and diplomacy."

    The interests of the rest of the world are closely linked to those of China. For example, some of China's laws and policies have a great impact on the policy decisions of various entities from multinational companies to global economic and political organizations, the commentary said.

    It went on to say, "Therefore, the world needs to learn about China more promptly and comprehensively, while the annual sessions, undoubtedly, serve as one of the best channels."

    The openness of the annual sessions also indicates that China is responsible for the whole world. With the growth of China's comprehensive national strength and its increasing status in the international arena, the outside world has voiced amazement, envy and doubts as well.

    Actually, it is not hard to observe that some major draft laws and policies deliberated during the two sessions are formulated by taking China's national conditions into account and drawing on international practices.

    In the information age, nevertheless, if you do not express yourself on your own, you will certainly be expressed by others.

    China, which takes the road of peaceful development, must use mature public diplomatic means to accurately display its own image, in order to avoid misreading, the commentary said.

    The reason why China can gain more and more respect is that it sticks to the road of peaceful development, the essence of which is striving for a peaceful international environment to develop China.

    In turn, China will able to advance world peace with its own development, the commentary said, adding that China's development goes hand in hand with world peace.

    Today, the sessions are convened not only for the Chinese people, but also serve as a "grand political gathering" in quest of promoting harmony around the world.
