PATNA, India, March 15 (Xinhua) -- At least seven people were crushed to death when the railings of the roof of a house fell down on a wedding ceremony in north Indian state Bihar late Wednesday, the police said Thursday.

A large number of people were participating in a wedding ceremony in front of a house at Amarua village in Bihar Bhojpur district Wednesday evening when the brick-made railings of the roof suddenly collapsed, the district Superintendent of Police (SP), Bhojpur Umesh Kumar told Xinhua over phone Thursday.

Over 50 others were injured and more than 20 of them are in critical conditions, he said.

Eyewitnesses said a huge crowd of women had gathered at the roof singing marriage songs, a ritual for Hindu wedding, and many of them leaned against the railings which could not bear their weight and finally collapsed.
