BEIJING, March 13 (Xinhua) -- China's chief justice said
here on Tuesday that the efforts of Chinese courts in 2006 to crack down on
criminal activities of various kinds helped safeguard national security and
social stability, and promoted human rights protection.

anti-graft campaign led to the downfall of a series of high ranking officials in
2006, among whom nine were sentenced by courts, Chief Justice Xiao Yang said
here Tuesday.
