TOKYO, March 12 (Xinhua) -- A meeting attended by Japan, Israel, the Palestinians
and Jordan will be held on Wednesday in Tokyo with the goal of strengthening
cooperation and promoting stability in the Middle East.
The Cabinet-level meeting, hosted by Japan, will launch the "Concept for
Creating the Corridor for Peace and Prosperity" put forward by former Prime
Minister Junichiro Koizumi during his visit to the region last July, Kyodo News
reported.
Japanese Foreign Minister Taro Aso, Israeli Vice Premier Shimon Peres, Palestine
Liberation Organization's Negotiations Affairs Department head Saeb Erekat,
and Jordanian King Abdullah's special adviser Farouk Kasrawi are to
participated in the meeting as representatives of each of the four sides.
Japan is expected to pledge assistance during the meeting for the
sustainable economic development of the region, especially that of the
Palestinian territories, according to the Japanese Foreign Ministry.
Japanese officials said Japan will probably help build a development project in the West Bank and is now choosing a site for it.
