BEIJING, March 12 (Xinhua) -- Chinese shares opened higher on Monday. The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index opened at 2,945.92 points, up by 8.01 points, or 0.27 percent.

    The index, which tracks both yuan-denominated A shares and hard-currency B shares traded on the Shanghai Stock Exchange, closed at 2,937.91 points on Friday.
