SOFIA, March 11 (Xinhua) -- Bulgarian customs officers
found about 163kg of heroin hidden in a truck bound for Austria at a checkpoint
along the border with Serbia, the customs office said on Sunday.
The owner of the truck, a 42-year-old Turkish citizen, had been arrested, the customs office said in a
statement.
Authorities put the value of the seizure at
20 million U.S. dollars, said to be the second largest heroin haul at a
Bulgarian border checkpoint in the past five years.
Bulgaria, which straddles one of the main
drug-trafficking routes between Europe and southwest Asia, seized 8.4 tons of
drugs last year.
