GAZA, March 10 (Xinhua) -- A spokesman for the Hamas-led caretaker government on Saturday described as positive a EU decision to conditionally deal with a coming Palestinian unity government.

The European Union said in a summit in Brussels on Friday that the 27 EU members were ready to work with a legitimate Palestinian government that accepts international demands, primarily recognition of Israel.

"The final statement of the summit was positive despite conditions," Ghazi Hamad told reporters in Gaza, calling for "opening dialogue between the Europeans and the Palestinian government."

Hamas has agreed to form a coalition government with the moderate Fatah movement led by President Mahmoud Abbas. The new government is expected to be established by next Friday.

The Hamas-led government has suffered the West's aid embargo as Hamas refused to renounce violence and recognize the Jewish state since it took office last March.

Regarding a summit between Abbas and Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, Hamad said that Abbas would enjoy a strong weapon by a united Palestinian stance and the Mecca deal on power sharing.

The summit is expected to take place in Jerusalem on Sunday.
