BEIJING, March 10 (Xinhua) -- A Chinese lawmaker who suggested that air
hostesses wear trousers instead of skirts to keep warm in the chilly season has
received response from the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC).
Li Hairong, a deputy to China's top legislature, the National People's
Congress (NPC), said she wrote a letter to head of the CAAC, saying that during
her two recent air trips, she found air hostesses suffering from cold for being
thinly clad.
"Air attendants should put on winter suits in the winter," said Li, former
vice chairwoman of the All-China Women's Federation, a mass organization that
represents and protects women's rights and interests.
"Trousers will not affect the images of hostesses nor passengers' attitude
toward them. To win in competition, airlines should focus on service rather than
the clothes of crew members," Li said.
In response to Li's letter, CAAC Director Yang Yuanyuan said "the
administration attaches great importance to the rights and interests of air
staff, and we will discuss with airline companies on the winter clothes of crew
members."
The NPC is holding its annual full session in Beijing, bringing together
nearly lawmakers from all over the country.
