LONDON, March 8 (Xinhua) -- PSV Eindhoven drew 1-1 at Arsenal on Wednesday and made it through to the Champions League quarterfinals on a 2-1 aggregate win, dashing England's hopes of making European soccer history.

PSV defender Alex scored an own goal in 53 minutes, but his vital late equaliser secured a 2-1 win over the two legs and deny England the chance of becoming the first to put four clubs into the last eight.

Bayern Munich were also in after beating Real Madrid 2-1 for a 4-4 aggregate and advancing on away goals rule, while Dutch striker Roy Makaay scored in just 10 seconds to set the new record of the fastest goal in the Champions League.

AC Milan, beating Celtic 1-0 after extra time to win 1-0 on aggregate, and Manchester United, taking Lille 1-0 for a 2-0 aggregate win, each booked their places in the last eight on Wednesday, joining 2005 winners Liverpool, Chelsea, AS Roma and Valencia, who all qualified on Tuesday.

The draw for the quarter-and semi-finals will be held on Friday in Athens, which is also hosting the final on May 23.
