Special report: Global fight against bird flu

HANOI, March 6 (Xinhua) -- A 42-year-old woman from Laos, who died on March 4, has been infected with bird flu virus strain H5N1, raising the total death caused by the disease in the country to two, Lao news agency KPL reported Tuesday.

The woman from Laos' Vientiane capital was hospitalized on Feb. 28 after developing bird flu symptoms. Late last month, a 15-year-old girl from the city became the country's first bird flu patient. Now, bird flu is striking poultry in eight out of nine districts of Vientiane.
