Reyes follows Beckham to be out of Real squad

MADRID, March 6 (Xinhua) -- Spanish international Jose Antonio Reyes followed former England captain David Beckham to be out of Real Madrid's squad after suffering a knee injury in last weekend's Primera Liga match.

The midfielder, who sustained a lateral ligament strain in his left knee during Real's 1-1 draw on Saturday hosting Getafe, would be out for three to four weeks while Beckham was sidelined for more than a month with a more serious strain.

Both players will miss Wednesday's return leg of Real's Champions League last-16 tie against Bayern Munich. Real hold a 3-2 advantage after the first leg in Madrid.

Beckham still hopeful of playing for England

LONDON, Feb. 21 (Xinhua) -- Former England skipper David Beckham said Wednesday that he is still hopeful of playing for his country despite his move to Los Angeles Galaxy this summer.

Beckham was dropped by new manager Steve McLaren following last year's World Cup and has so far not been used during the Euro 2008qualifying campaign.

"My ambition has never changed since the age of 13, even younger. I always wanted to play for my country and I will always be available whether I'm in Spain for the next four months, or whether I'm in LA," said Real Madrid midfielder Beckham, who has 94 caps.

Real Madrid manager calls up Beckham, reverses earlier statement

MADRID, Feb. 9 (Xinhua) -- Fabio Capello, manager of Spanish soccer league giant Real Madrid, has called up English soccer forward David Beckham for a match against Real Sociedad, reversing an earlier decision to sideline him, local media said on Friday.

A large number of injuries and repeated demands from teammates have persuaded the Italian manager to call up Beckham for the game in San Sebastian's Anoeta Stadium, even though he had made a public declaration that he would never ask Beckham to play again, after the English player decided to sign for United States team Los Angeles Galaxy.

Beckham back to Real squad

MADRID, Feb. 9 (Xinhua) -- David Beckham's month-long spell in the stands is set to come to an end after Real Madrid announced Friday that he will be recalled to the squad for their league game against Real Sociedad at the weekend.

Real coach Fabio Capello had said he would not pick the 31-year-old former England captain after he agreed a move to LA Galaxy next season.

David Beckham to join LA Galaxy

LOS ANGELES, Jan. 11 (Xinhua) -- England midfielder David Beckham will join the Los Angeles Galaxy of Major League Soccer (MLX), it was announced Thursday.
