President Hu Jintao joined a meeting of the Peasants and Workers Democratic Party and the Jiusan Society. Hu Jintao listed some of the things necessary to build a comprehensively well-off and harmonious society.

    He called for a speeding up of the development of medical and health undertakings and accelerating the building of an innovative society.

    Wu Bangguo took part in a group discussion attended by the Zhi Gong Party and the All-China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese. China's top legislator said the CPC places great importance on multi-party cooperation and political consultation.

    He hoped the two parties would further strengthen cooperation with the CPC, and help build an all-around well-off society. Wu Bangguo called on the parties to contribute to the goal of a socialist harmonious society. And he said they should help fully implement the law on the protection of the rights and interests of returned overseas Chinese.

    In discussion with representatives from economic and agricultural circles, Premier Wen Jiabao urged government officials to listen more, talk less and be pragmatic.

    Wen said all government officials should listen to criticism, proposals and suggestions from all sides, especially those from the grass roots. He said talking less means officials need seriously answer the inquires and treat people's views in a practical and realistic manner. 

    The premier said officials should actively consider the suggestions and proposals, and make sure every proposal is handled properly. During the panel discussion, CPPCC members discussed issues including housing, energy saving, pollution reduction, and the development of the western regions.

    CPPCC chairman Jia Qinglin took part in the discussions with members from religious groups. Jia emphasized that religious work must be done in a steady way. The religious groups should unite to serve the goal of Scientific Development.

    Vice President Zeng Qinghong joined the discussions of non party members and groups promoting friendship with foreign countries. He said the development of a socialist economy should follow the path of Scientific Development.

    Wu Guanzheng briefed the members from the group of health and medical sector on progress of the CPC's efforts to combat corruption.

    Li Changchun held discussions with members from education and sports circles. He said governments at all levels should grasp the opportunity of the 2008 Olympic Games, and create a sound social and cultural environment for the coming event.

    And Luo Gan joined discussions with members representing the media.
