HANOI, Feb. 28 (Xinhua) -- A 15-year-old girl from Laos' Vientiane city has become the country's first bird flu patient, Lao news agency KPL reported Wednesday.

Tests showed that the girl, living near a farm having bird flu infected ducks, has been infected with bird flu virus strain H5N1, the agency quoted the Lao Ministry of Health as reporting.

The girl, who is under bird flu test and treatment in Thailand, was admitted to a hospital in Vientiane on Feb. 15 with symptoms of headache, cough and fever.

According to the girl's family, she has not contacted with dead poultry before being falling ill.

Laos is taking concrete measures, including calling for assistance of international organizations in terms of technique and finance, to deal with the disease, which broke out among poultry in the city two weeks ago.
