BEIJING, Feb. 19 (Xinhua) -- The number of China's mobile phone users is expected to top 520 million in 2007, against 460 million in 2006, according to figures from the Ministry of Information Industry.
Chinese people sent nearly 430 billion short messages in 2006, a 41 percent increase over 2005. More and more people are sending short messages via mobile phones, especially greetings to friends and relatives during festivals such as Lunar New Year and Valentine's Day.
TV programs like "Super Girl" also generate a large number of short messages from audience who are willing to participate and vote.
The number of Chinese mobile phone users has kept increasing since 2006, as markets in towns and countryside are exploited and low-price phones produced.
On the Chinese mainland, over 100 million mobile phones were sold in 2006.
