BEIJING, Feb. 14 -- With the annual Valentine's Day fast approaching, the Star Daily and Sina.com jointly conducted a survey, themed "Do you trust your boyfriend or girlfriend". The results of the survey, released on Monday, show that 74 percent of the respondents don't have enough confidence in their loved ones.

The disappointing result drew the attention of many. With these questions in mind, a reporter from the newspaper held an interview with Bo Chenggang, a well-known psychologist in China.

According to the psychologist, the mistrust between lovers has something to do with the changes in women's lives.

One woman's magazine has conducted a survey on the lifestyle of women in more than 30 countries around the world. Women are now most concerned about: jobs (45 percent), themselves (31 percent), their children (14 percent), and their love life (10 percent). And when asked whether they are willing to sacrifices for their love, 52 percent of those surveyed said "No!"

Women are becoming more and more independent; thereby spending less time and energy on their love life.

On the other hand, men also tend to pay less attention to their partners, much less than things like soccer, for example. Imagine what would happen when a man is forced to choose between "going shopping with his girlfriend" or "watching football games at home!"

Talking of uncertainties in love life, Mr. Bo says pains in love help us to grow up, as long as we adopt a positive attitude to it. His suggestion is to work on your relationships rather than worry about tomorrow. Don't think too much before showing your affection to someone.

Also in the survey, 69 percent of the interviewed agree that sometimes they want to test the sincerity of their partners. Mr. Bo offers several ways to find out whether he/she really cares for you, such as: to ask for help, and observe his response; tell him/her "My parents want to have dinner with you", and wait for his/her answer.

One thing worth noticing is that being sincere does not require telling your partner everything about your past. It's often the case that women want to know everything about their partner's past, refusing to accept things that displease them. Sometimes it's clever to believe in "white lies."

Nowadays we are surrounded by pessimistic sayings about love, such as men are all playboys, women are always after money. However, that needn't be true, as long as we are mature enough and have faith in love.
