LONDON, Feb. 12 (Xinhua) -- Camilla, wife of
Britain's Prince Charles, is to undergo a hysterectomy operation some time next
month, which was described as "common operation for middle-aged women."
The
Sky News late Monday night quoted Clarence House as saying that the Duchess of
Cornwall, who turns 60 this year, will spend six weeks recuperating.
She will reportedly have the operation at the King
Edward VII Hospital in central London.
The private hospital is the first port of call for
royals and is where the Queen had her knee surgery.
It is reported that Camilla looked relaxed and showed
no signs of being in pain or suffering discomfort.
Camilla pulled out of an official engagement in
Aberdeen on January 5 for the second time in under a month.
She had previously canceled an appearance at a
Christmas pudding factory on December 8. Speaking about the hysterectomy, Royal
commentator Dickie Arbiter told Sky News: "It doesn't mean someone is in bad
health.
He said: "The operation is debilitating and has a
psychological effect, but Camilla is strong and she'll get over it."
One in five women reportedly has a hysterectomy by
the age of 55. Around 50,000 womb-removal operations are carried out in the UK
every year.
