JAKARTA, Feb. 12 (Xinhua) -- The Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) will discuss the dispute between Israel and some Islamic countries on the excavation near Jerusalem's most important holy Islamic site, Secretary General of the Islamic group Ermeleddin Ihsanoglu said here on Monday.

The secretary general said that the OIC had condemned the digging by Israel located about 50 meters from the 1,400-year-old al-Aqsa mosque, Islam's third holiest shrine, but Israel ignored and kept continuing its work.

"We have condemned it, unfortunately Israel does not listen. As we see they are going with their program," Ihsanoglu told reporters after a meeting with Indonesian Foreign Minister Hassan Wirajuda here.

"we will discuss this next week in Jeddah," he said, adding that we have invited Indonesia to attend the meeting and we also invited some members of the Security Council of the United Nations to take part in the meeting.

Ihsanoglu said that the meeting to be held in Jeddah of Saudi Arabia on Feb. 22 will be attended by most of the OIC's member countries.

The excavation starting from last Tuesday has drawn criticism from several Arab countries.

Indonesia, the biggest Muslim country and has no diplomatic relation with Israel, has called Israel to stop the digging, by saying that it would increase tension in the region and could hamper the on-going peace process there.

The secretary general pays a visit to Indonesia from February 11to 14, according to the Indonesian foreign ministry.

During his visit, the secretary general will meet with Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and to visit the tsunami-hit province of Aceh and earthquake hit of Yogyakarta.
