Special report: Global fight against bird fluกก

JAKARTA, Feb. 11 (Xinhua) -- A 20-year-old Indonesian woman died of bird flu early on Sunday, bring the death toll to 64 in the country.

"The woman, who was hospitalized in hospital in West Java province, died early today," an official of the National Commission of the Bird Flu Control told Xinhua by telephone.

The woman had contacted with died fowls before he was hospitalized on Feb. 9, an official from the Health Ministry said earlier.

With the new patient, total cases of the bird flu in Indonesia has reached 84, the worst hit the country in the world.

Indonesia's first human case was identified in July 2005.

The huge territory, back yard centered farming and relatively lack budget in Indonesia have hampered the authorities in the country to fight against avian influenza.

However, the Indonesian government has announced a series of new, robust bird flu policies in recent weeks, including a ban on backyard poultry in Jakarta, capital of Indonesia.
