MADRID, Feb. 9 (Xinhua) -- Fabio Capello, manager of Spanish soccer league giant Real Madrid, has called up English soccer forward David Beckham for a match against Real Sociedad, reversing an earlier decision to sideline him, local media said on Friday.

A large number of injuries and repeated demands from teammates have persuaded the Italian manager to call up Beckham for the game in San Sebastian's Anoeta Stadium, even though he had made a public declaration that he would never ask Beckham to play again, after the English player decided to sign for United States team Los Angeles Galaxy.

While Beckham is now certain to go to the northern Spain match, he may end up on the bench, as Capello has named a 20-player long list, which he will have to reduce to 18 on the day of the match.

Beckham last played at Real Madrid on Jan. 7, when Madrid lost 2-0 to Deportivo in the Riazor Stadium; their first match of the year. Beckham was a substitute but came on after 12 minutes, when Guti was injured.
