BEIJING, Feb. 10 (Xinhua) -- Rabies continued to be
the most deadly infectious disease in China in January, with a death rate of
about 84 percent, topping the list of most fatal diseases followed by
tuberculosis, AIDS, hepatitis B and cerebrospinal meningitis.
A total of 495 people died from
infectious diseases in January 2007, down sharply from 810 in December but very
similar to the level reported in January 2006, the Ministry of Health reported
on Saturday.
Bird flu has reappeared on the scene after four
months of silence, with China reporting on Jan. 10 that a 37-year-old farmer in
east China's Anhui Province had contracted bird flu but had recovered.
