BANGKOK, Feb. 9 (Xinhua) -- Thailand is restoring political stability and the former regime of Thaksin Shinawatra ousted by the last September coup could never regain its power, the Council for National Security chairman Gen. Sonthi Boonyaratglin said Friday.

"Success is near and the civil servants can help to move the country forward by uniting to uproot the legacy of the ousted government," Sonthi, who is also the Army Chief and the leader of last year's military coup, was quoted by local news group The Nation as saying.

Sonthi also said that the graft investigations by the Assets Examination Committee and the National Counter Corruption Commission were close to completion and the judicial review on electoral fraud could lead to the dissolution of the Thai Rak ThaiParty, he said.

"About 200 key members are about to leave their former ruling party and what was once considered powerful would soon become hollow," said the general, who launched a military coup across the country on Sept. 19 last year and ousted the former prime minister Thaksin from his power.

Meanwhile, Thai Rak Thai Party's secretary-general Suwat Liptapanlop, accompanying a group of about 30 party members, on Friday announced their resignations from the membership of the party, which is founded by the ousted Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra.

It was also reported that Suwat, the former deputy prime minister, would form a new party called "Path of Alliance."
