MAPUTO, Feb. 8 (Xinhua) -- China and Mozambique on Thursday issued a joint communique here on bilateral relations and international affairs of common concern during Chinese President Hu Jintao's two-day state visit to the African country.

The communique was issued after Hu and his Mozambican counterpart Armando Emilio Guebuza held talks in Maputo.

The two leaders exchanged views and reached broad consensus on the implementation of the results reached at the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), bilateral cooperative relations and international and regional affairs of common concern, the communique said.

The two nations hailed the traditional friendship between the two countries and the sound development of bilateral relations since the establishment of diplomatic relations 31 years ago, and the cooperation in economic and social fields, according to the communique.

Also, they agreed to enhance high-level exchanges between the two countries' governments, parliaments, and between the Communist Party of China and the Mozambique Liberation Front Party.

China and Mozambique also pledged to deepen mutually beneficial cooperation on economy and trade, to expand exchanges in social and cultural fields, and consolidate and uplift bilateral relations of the two countries, the communique said.

Mozambique reaffirmed its commitment to the one-China policy, its opposition to "Taiwan independence" in any form, including "dejure Taiwan independence," and to Taiwan's accession to any international organization of sovereign states, it said.

On economic issues, both sides enjoys a high degree of complementary ties and a strong development potential in economic and trade cooperation. China and Mozambique would encourage their enterprises to carry out mutually beneficial cooperation in agricultural exploitation and infrastructure construction.

The two sides signed a series of agreements on partially canceling debts and the establishment of a national stadium, agricultural technical demonstration center and schools in Mozambique.

On international issues, both sides said they were willing to strengthen negotiations and coordination on multilateral affairs, to make joint efforts to maintain the interests of the developing countries and to push forward international political and economic order along a more fair and reasonable direction.

In the communique, the two leaders also agreed to develop a new type of China-Africa strategic partnership, featuring political equality and mutual trust, economic win-win cooperation and cultural exchange.

Hu arrived here earlier in the day from South Africa for a two-day state visit to Mozambique.

Hu is on the seventh leg of his eight-nation trip to Africa that has already taken him to Cameroon, Liberia, Sudan, Zambia, Namibia, and South Africa. He will also visit the Seychelles.
