Bush proposed 2008 budget for major federal agencies

    WASHINGTON, Feb. 5 (Xinhua) -- President George W. Bush submit to Congress on Monday a 2.9 trillion-dollar spending plan for fiscal 2008 that balances increased military spending with restrain in health care and other nondefense programs.

    Included below are Bush's proposed 2008 budget for major federal agencies and departments (amounts exclude enacted and requested supplemental and emergency funding):

    Agriculture: 20.2 billion dollars

    Commerce: 6.6 billion dollars

    Defense: 481.4 billion dollars

    Education: 56.0 billion dollars

    Health and Human Services: 69.3 billion dollars

    Energy: 24.3 billion dollars

    Homeland Security: 34.3 billion dollars

    Housing and Urban Development: 35.2 billion dollars

    Interior: 10.6 billion dollars

    Justice: 20.2 billion dollars

    Labor: 10.6 billion dollars

    State and Other International Programs: 35.0 billion dollars

    Transportation: 12.1 billion dollars

    Treasury: 12.1 billion dollars

    Veteran Affairs: 39.4 billion dollars

    Crops of Engineers: 4.9 billion dollars

    Environmental Protection Agency: 7.2 billion dollars

    Executive Office of the President: 0.3 billion dollars

    Social Security Administration: 7.9 billion dollars

    National Aeronautics and Space Administration: 17.3 billion dollars

    Legislative branch: 4.4 billion dollars

    Judiciary: 6.1 billion dollars

    National Science Foundation: 6.4 billion dollars

    Small Business Administration: 0.5 billion dollars

    Other agencies: 7.5 billion dollars

    Total, Discretionary Spending: 929.8 billion dollars.
