WARSAW, Feb. 4 (Xinhua) -- Polish acting chief vet Ewa Lech said there is no immediate threat of bird flu in Poland, the PAP news agency reported on Sunday.

    "We have been monitoring the situation and in case of any danger we will take appropriate steps," Lech told PAP.

    "Migration of birds will start soon. The threat might be growing but we have been prepared for such situation. If there is any case of bird flu in the neighboring countries we will take proper steps," she said.

    In the first half of last year, bird flu was found in several regions in Poland.

    In 2007, bird flue has been reported in Japan, South Korea, Thailand, Russia, Britain and Hungary. The EC confirmed Saturday the discovery of the highly pathogenic H5N1 strain of avian flu on a turkey farm in Britain. ¡¡
