JILIN, Northeast China, Feb. 1 (Xinhua) -- Alexandr Chervyakov of Kazakhstan beat Chinese Zhang Qing to win the men's 20km individual biathlon event at the sixth Asian Winter Games here on Thursday.

Chervyakov clocked on one hour, six minutes and 45 seconds to award his country a third gold during the Games.

"I am very happy to win the gold," said Chervyakov. "I am also happy to come and compete here."

"My son was born last November, today my wife and my son were watching me compete on TV. This gold medal is for them," Chervyakov added.

Zhang, double titlist in the 20km and 10km events at the fourth Winter Asiad in Kangwon, South Korea, finished 25.5 seconds behind for the silver while the bronze went to Japanese Hidenori Isa with 1:07:28.6.

"I am contented with a silver," said Zhang, a bronze medallist in Monday's men's 10km sprint. "I have tried my best, but my opponent is very strong."
