HAVANA, Jan. 29 (Xinhua) -- Cuba on Monday once again protested against the 44-year-long embargo that the United States has imposed on the Caribbean country, reported the local weekly newspaper Trabajadores (Workers).

The blockade is "an act of war" and genocide, said Olga Miranda, president of the Cuban International Law Society.

The former diplomat said Washington's excuse for imposing an embargo on Cuba, which described Cuba as "a danger to the security in the hemisphere," were "lies."

She said that the real reason behind the embargo was because Cuba broke the U.S. "imperial strategy."

Washington has imposed an embargo on Cuba since Feb. 3, 1962.
