ADDIS ABABA, Jan. 27 (Xinhua) -- Ethiopian Prime Minister Meles Zenawi on Saturday called on the international community to provide necessary assistance in the ongoing efforts to strengthen the institutions of the Transitional Federal Government (TFG) of Somalia.

Meles made the call during his talks with U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs, Jendayi E. Frazer.

Meles told Frazer that the international community should provide assistance also in the reconstruction of infrastructure in Somalia.

Meles called for supports aimed at helping Somalis succeed with their ongoing political dialogues, adding that economic supports should also be offered to the TFG.

Meles said a few African countries have already pledged to contribute peacekeepers for the planned AU peacekeeping force.

Frazer, on her part, said it is in the interest of Ethiopia and the United States to see continued dialogues among Somali parties.
