Special report: Tension escalates in

A
suicide car bomber blew up an explosive-laden car at midday near Baghdad's
al-Jadidah police headquarters, while another parking car bomb detonated shortly
afterwards, the source said on condition of anonymity.
Three policemen were among the wounded, he said.
Earlier the source said one suicide car bomb detonated at the
area but he now changed his story.
According to the source, most of the killed and wounded were
civilians since the headquarters is close to a busy popular market. Several cars
were also caught fire by the blasts, and blood and debris could be seen
scattered at the scene.
In a separate incident earlier in the day, mortar rounds landed
on the Hurriyah neighborhood in the north of the capital, killing a civilian and
wounding 14 others.
Violence rages in Iraq as sectarian killings, suicide attacks,
bombings, abductions cause dozens of Iraqi casualties daily.
