JILIN, Northeast China, Jan. 26 (Xinhua) -- More snow will be brought out
at the Beidahu ski resort, where all the snow events of the 6th Asian Winter
Games are set to be held, the local meteorological bureau revealed here on
Friday.
Snow will start to fall on Jan. 29 through to Feb. 1, and the local
government will take the chance to increase the snowfall by enhancing the
moisture in the air, Jilin Meteorological Bureau said in a statement.
Beidahu, about 53 kilometers away from downtown of Jilin city and 141 kilometers
from Changchun, captical city of Jilin province, will hold biathlon,
Alpine skiing, freestyle skiing, cross-countryskiing and snowboard competitions
at the Jan. 28 - Feb. 4 Asian Winter Games.
It has been plagued by the lack of snow since last November due to an
uncharacteristic warm winter.
The temperature at Beidahu averaged minus 11 degrees centigrade in January,
about 8 degrees higher than usual, according to Jilin Meteorological Bureau.
Apart from increasing natural snowfall, considerable artificial snow have
also been produced since last November, which could ensure the Asian jamboree to
be getting underway swimmingly.
Test events including Freestyle Aerials World Cup, National Freestyle
Skiing Championships, and National Snowboard Halfpipe Champions Series have been
hosted at Beidahu this winter.
The 6th Asian Winter Games is set to start on Jan. 28, with snow events
at Beidahu of Jilin city and ice sports at Changchun.
