CHANGCHUN, Northeast China, Jan. 26 (Xinhua) -- The injured icehockey player
Al Bhaheri Juma from the United Arab Emirates left hospital after doctors affirmed
that no fractures happened here on Friday at the 6th Asian Winter Games.
"This is a minor problem, not very serious, only a twist of parenchyma,"
said Salem Alneaimi, attache of the NOC of UAE, who accompanied the player to
the first-aid room of the Sino-Japan Friendship Hospital, less than 10-minute
drive from the rink.
"This is a part of ice hockey. We expected injuries to happen anyway, but that
player (from Thailand) pushed him from the back. You know, he is the best player
in UAE and is a striker," said Alneaimi. "There's no problem that he'll be
back to the ice hockey and I hope he can play the next game."
The accident was the first at the Winter Asiad. UAE No.99 Juma collided with
Chartsuwan Tewin, No.5 of the Thai team when the match was only played for one
minute and 11 seconds. Juma was then stretchered out by medical personnel.
"My back ached very much that time, but now I am much better," said an
upset Juma with a tractive band from his left shoulder to the left arm. "The
next game? No, no. The next game is tomorrow, and I think I need more time."
Juma was taken to the emergency car on a litter and left the hospital two
hours after his arrival.
"He suffered the injury to the parenchyma in his left should, back and waist," said
Liu Tianji, a doctor of the first-aid office standing-by for any accidents
happened during the Winter Asiad. "Normally this kind of injuries needs
five to six days to recover, but it depends."
UAE beat Thailand 4-0 in the ice hockey opener of the sixth Asian
Winter Games which officially raises the curtain on Jan. 28th.
