TURIN, Italy, Jan. 25 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Liu Cuijia broke
Thursday South Korea's domination in the short-track speed skating with a
women's 1,000m gold medal at the Winter Universiade.
Liu's victory was awarded by Kim Hye-Kyung, who was
disqualified for pushing her teammate Cho Ha-Ri on the last lap though she
finished first.
The South Koreans had won all the four gold medals
featured in the previous two days of the event. South Korea swept all the 10
gold medals of the short track at the last version of the Games in Innsbruck,
Austria.
Cho won the silver while Italy's Marta Capurso took
the bronze.
In an all-Korean final, Sung Si-Bak had the better on
the sprint to beat compatriots for the men's 1,000m gold medal by 1:28.169.
Lee Seung-Hoon was second with only 0.08 seconds less
than the winner, while Lee Hyeon-Sung 0.04 seconds further back on third.
France topped in the snowboard cross by wrapping up
both men's and women's events, with Leo Trespeuch triumphing in the men's and
Diane Thermoz Liaudy in the women's to end France gold-medal drought in the
Games.
The competitions of curling entered the final stage
with the United States facing Britain in the men's final and Canada facing
Russia in the women's.
In the ice hockey placing finals, Slovakia beat Italy
2-1 to win the fifth place.
The Czech Republic finished seventh by defeating the United States 3-0, while Japan beat South Korea 5-2 for the ninth placing. [1] [2] [3] [4]
