CHANGCHUN, Northeast China, Jan. 25 (Xinhua) -- Uzbekistan aims at chalking up medals of any color at the 6th Asian Winter Games slated for Jan. 28 to Feb. 4, said their Olympic committee president here on Thursday.
"Uzbekistan will do the best to get medals of any color even though the Winter Asian Games will be dominated by powerhouses like Japan, South Korea and China, " said Djabbarov Sandiar, president of the Uzbekistan Olympic Committee at the flag-raising ceremony on Thursday.
Uzbekistan became the second to hold the flag-raising ceremony at the Asian Winter Games following Thailand on Wednesday.
Not a country specializing in winter sports, Uzbekistan started their winter Asiad campaign since the 3rd Asian Winter Games held in 1996 in China's Harbin, where they won a silver and a bronze medal.
At the fifth Aomori Asian Winter Games in Japan, Uzbekistan pulled off the poorest run in history after getting just one bronze medal.
"We sent 16 athletes here for the Changchun Asian Winter Games with two of them participating in figure skating and the others for Alpine skiing events, " added Sandiar.
