SEOUL, Jan. 23 (Xinhua) -- The South Korean Home Affairs Ministry said Tuesday it has provided 500 million won (530,500 U.S. dollars) to provinces where the bird flu out broke to curb the spread of bird flu.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the ministry said the emergency aid will be spent in purchasing disinfectants and other quarantine-related equipment.
Quarantine workers have culled about 100,000 poultry since the latest outbreak confirmed on last Saturday, which was the fifth of its kind since November last year, in a chicken farm in Cheonan, about 90 km south of Seoul. The quarantine authorities said they would slaughter an additional 565,000 poultry in the area.
