WARSAW, Jan. 22 (Xinhua) -- Polish Deputy Foreign Minister Witold Waszczykowski said on Monday that anti-missile shield should increase Poland's security.
Waszczykowski told the PAP news agency that in the coming two weeks the United States would present Poland the details of a proposal to build an anti-missile shield in Poland.
The United States made a formal offer to the Czech Republic and wants to open talks with Poland on the shield.
Under the proposal, Poland would be the base for underground rocket silos and the Czech Republic would host the radar system.
According to Waszczykowski, the United States informed Poland and the Czech Republic on Friday that it was ready to resume talks on the shield that ended in summer.
The project, if built, would be the biggest element of the MDI shield outside the United States.
U.S. officials said the system will protect its allies from missiles that could be fired from Iran or other "rogue regimes."
