CEBU, Philippines, Jan. 14 (Xinhua) -- The seventh trilateral leaders' meeting of China, Japan and South Korea opened Sunday in Cebu, the second largest city of the Philippines.

    Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao chaired the meeting and exchanged views with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and South Korean President Roh Moo-hyun on trilateral cooperation, as well as international and regional issues of common concern.

    As the current rotating coordinating party of the trilateral cooperation, China will put forward a series of concrete cooperation initiatives so as to strengthen exchanges and cooperation in political, economic, trade and cultural areas among the three countries, said Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister Cui Tiankai earlier.

    The resumption of the China-Japan-South Korea meeting was of significant meaning to maintaining and moving forward the trilateral cooperation.

    "It is in the common interests of the three countries and conducive to regional development and prosperity," Cui added.

    The trilateral leaders' meeting took place on the sidelines of the 10th Summit of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Plus China, Japan, and the Republic of Korea (10+3).

    The Chinese premier arrived in Cebu on Saturday to attend a series of leaders' meetings. He will also pay an official visit to the Southeast Asian nation. It was the fourth time for Premier Wen to attend such ASEAN-related summits since 2003.
